Frequently Asked Questions

Who Is a Candidate for Hair Transplantation?

  • Genetic hair loss observed in men

  • Male pattern hair loss observed in women

  • People with scars and hair, beard, moustache and eyebrow loss due to accidents, previous surgery, burns, and similar causes.

  • It is applied to people who previously underwent unsuccessful hair transplantation in order to make up imperfections.

  • It is applied with the purpose of densifying hair in people who underwent hair transplantation but are not satisfied with the density of their hair

In some diseases that lead to hair loss, if hair is not growing back in the long term despite treatment or it is not possible for it to grow back, it is possible to carry out a hair transplantation procedure if there are areas from where hair roots can be collected.

Is there a certain age limit for hair transplantation?

There is no certain age limit for hair transplantation. It is usually done on people between the age of 20-65.

What is a Graft?

A graft is a piece of tissue fragment taken from one part of the body and transplanted to another area with the purpose of repair. The graft in hair transplantation means a piece of tissue containing a number of hair roots between 1-4.

What is a follicular unit?

The hair follicles that form our hair are usually found in groups containing 1-5 hair roots. These groups of hair roots are called "follicular units".

What Is the Micro FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) Method?

Grafts containing hair roots are collected from the nape and both sides of the head so as to include all or a part of the follicular unit using a micro motor to which needles with a diameter of between 0.6-0.8 mm are attached. The extracted grafts are placed into small holes prepared in the hairless area in the classical method. If an implanter pen is going to be used, there is no need to prepare holes. The implanter opens the hole itself when placing the graft.

Does FUE damage the grafts by using a micro motor?

Absolutely not; FUE, which was formerly done manually, is almost without exception done with micro motors today. Some proponents of the manual FUE method had made such a claim in the past. However, no difference was found between manual graft collection and graft collection with a micro motor in studies that were done.

How long does a Micro FUE hair transplant procedure take?

The time varies depending on the number of grafts that will be implanted. 2000-3000 grafts (approximately 4000-6000 hair strands) take 5-6 hours to implant and 4000-5000 grafts (approximately 8000-10000 hair strands) take 7-8 hours to implant.

How long does it take for the patient to regain new hair?

Most of the transplanted hair falls out or weakens within the first few months. The reason for this is that a part of the hair roots goes into a resting phase after hair transplant in order to recuperate. After a 2-4 month resting phase, hair that fell out begin to regrow. Almost all of the transplanted hair regrows within 8 months. The hair strands, which are curly and feeble at first become straighter and thicken during the 10th month. This thickening continues until a year after hair transplant.

Is it normal to get acne in the areas where grafts were collected and implanted?

This is not an alarming situation. The reason for this is that grafts that are embedded under the skin try to break through the skin and come out. This is a common and ordinary situation. All you have to do is consulting your doctor and burst the tip of the swelling as if popping a pimple by adhering to hygiene rules. To avoid damaging the graft, it is necessary not to squeeze too much.

Does hair implanted with the Micro FUE method ever fall out again?

Because hair roots found on the nape and the sides of the head are genetically insensitive to the hormone dihydrotestosterone, they do not fall out for a lifetime. Since hair roots implanted with the FUE method are collected from these areas, they do not fall out for a lifetime either.

Does hair transplantation with Micro FUE pose any dangers to human health?

As long as there is adherence to medical rules, hair transplantation with the Micro FUE method does not have any known side effects or dangers.

Is there any alternative treatment method to hair transplantation?

Currently, the most effective treatment method for recovering hair that is lost due to various reasons is hair transplantation. Although work still continues on hair cloning, any result has not yet been obtained.

Can hair transplantation be done for the 2nd or 3rd time?

If there is a desire to do another transplantation in the same area for densification, it is necessary to wait 8 months for the 2nd hair transplant procedure in order to see all the hair that has grown out. If there is going to be transplantation on another area, it will be appropriate to wait for 6 months to pass for the donor area to recuperate. Hair roots can be taken for a 2nd or even 3rd time from the same area for hair transplantation. However, there will be gradual thinning in the area from which the hair is taken. Care must be taken in order not to create a mark or a thinned area.
